“The Lake,” is inspired by an inland lake in northeast Michigan that features a boggy, marsh-y environment at its northern tip, and then empties south into its widest parts, continuing for some 7 miles. Alogng its shore is a beautiful tree line complete with pines, birches, cedars, and more. I used white crayon and a mask to retain some crisp whites and lights in the trees and in the reflection in the water. It’s 21 “ x 25”, framed in a gorgeous matte gold with cream double mat. It sells for $210. If you’re interested in purchasing this painting, email me at megan@waterloogroup.com or contact me through the contact page on this website.

Harrisville White Barn, about 8 x 11, $125, was painted from a photo by Northern Living Photography. I asked permission from him if we could paint this, as it was a subject for a painting workshop that I led. He said paint away! I adore old barns and all these white buildings were calling my name. The all-white color made it extra special. I wasn’t sure if I was going to include the quilt imagery on the front of the barn, but quilt trails are a thing in many U.S. states and many barns showcase a quilt design (usually painted on a wood board or something durable). I decided to keep it in. It adds another layer of intrigue and character. The barn is located in northeast Michigan. By the way, the class did a fantastic job on the painting and I posted the results on my Facebook page. Click here to contact me about making a purchase.
Seney, Upper Peninsula sunset in August. Just a splash of colors all around us when I painted this. I felt like I had dipped myself into a crayon box when taking in all the color during this special sunset, viewed with my family on an annual adventure.

This painting was created for a festival — the Rendez-vous— which celebrates French Canadian and Detroit heritage. It’s held at the Ste. Anne de Detroit church, which is the second oldest continuously running church in the U.S. (number one is in St. Augustine, Fla.). The original building/parish was created in 1701; this one was built in 1886. It is about 8 x 11 and sells for $120. It’s also available in notecard and as a print. We picnicked at this Charlevoix Pier spot in the summer of 2018 after I appeared at a pop-up shop in Petoskey at a cool store. It was a gorgeous July afternoon. This is one of my all-time favorite lighthouses in Michigan. it has history itself and also with me and my family. My dad and mom loved it as well, so it’s in my heart. I painted this after visiting one day during the summer with my oldest son. We enjoyed finding Petoskey stones and listening to the waves while taking in the beauty of this historic sentinel. It’s about 10 by 8 inches and sells for $150. It has deckled edges on archival French paper, which makes for a great framing option (floating it on mat board rather than matting it). This painting is 9 x 12” in size. It depicts a spring day at the beach. Not a lot of activity yet, but soon, this area will be bustling with swimmers, picnickers, and others. A serene scene, to be sure. It sells for $47. If you are interested in purchasing this painting, please click here to send me a message.
This was so much fun to create. it’s based on the trillium on the forest floor near my cottage in northern Michigan. I took photos of the wildflowers one May and then once back in the studio, created what I felt when seeing those May beauties. This pattern is available in note card. I’ve also created other items with this pattern (USA fabric, sewed in Michigan) and even have it in scarf form (a USA fabric/chiffon). All fabric is colorfast and can be washed! I love the white pine and painted it on deckled-edged watercolor paper, providing it was a second sheet in gold-yellow, beneath it (the painting floats atop the second sheet). The deckled edge becomes part of the art, here. Also part of the art? The blue-green (like the pine) frame, that was refurbished by a frame-restoration expert, who sands, paints, and waxes to give it a vintage effect. This framed piece, approx. 5 × 7, sells for $80. Unframed, $50. If you’re interested in purchasing this painting, please email me at megan@waterloogroup.com or through the contact page on this site.
