This painting was inspired by Moments of Delight’s bar cart at her home. I just had to paint it, and then it called for ink after the watercolor was painted. So festive! It has sold! What a fun one to paint, especially with the addition of ink! Every time I’m on Mackinac Island, I observe architecture, mood, perspectives, and colors, and take lots of photos. This home is on Main Street, east of town. Love how the residents bring out all kinds of holiday trim and, in this case, a charming sled & skates. It’s about 8 × 7 and sells for $110. This was just so fun to attend — the tree lighting on Makcinac Island, Michigan. Every year it’s the first Friday night in December, I believe. We’ve been two or three times. The tiny town glows with holiday spirit and all gather around the tree to sing carols and herald the season! I loved painting this after I was there the last time. I went downtown on Main Street to get a pic when no one was around. Silent and so pretty. You can feel Christmas when all is quiet and especially when looking at this charming tree. It’s 7 × 10 inches and sells for $120. (P.S.: It was the official holiday postcard for the Mackinac Arts Council in 2024! What an honor that was!)

This pretty pink poinsettia was sitting on my table. The snowy, ice, slushy outside complemented its bright shades and happy feel. This painting is 9 × 12 inches and sells for $100. A welcoming magnolia wreath greets friends and fam at this house, which is actually an old farmhouse from the 1800s, located in Michigan. A fire blazes in the background as holiday festivities get underway. This painting is about 7 × 9 and sells for $80. This church (St. Gabriel, built in 1894) in Black River is just beautiful come the holidays. I couldn’t wait to paint this from a photo I took while exploring the area. It gives a feeling of peace. This painting has deckled edges to showcase the paper, and the paper becomes part of the art. It can be floated when matted. This painting has SOLD.
This painting was inspired by a photo my niece took in CT. I just love entryways during the holidays when they go festive! It measures 5 ¾ x 8 and sells for $47. If you’re interested in purchasing this painting, message me at megan@waterloogroup.com or through the contact page on this site.
It’s almost like a quilt! I loved “piecing” this together to create an abstract look at pines and berries. It’s 7.7 × 9 and sells for $100. If you’re interested in purchasing this painting, email me at megan@waterloogroup.com or visit the contact page on this site.
“Fresh Snow Holiday” features a welcoming outdoor Christmas tree with snow aplenty and trees in the distance. I used a resist for the snow, candle wax for the distant trees and a bit of glittery gold for the star. It measures 7 1/4” x 11” and sells for $105. I adore the Amaryllis plant and its strength to stand tall and beautiful! It shouts “holiday!” to me every time I see one. The background wash in this painting implies there may be another one in the distance, and the one in the foreground steals the show. It’s about 9 x 12 inches in size and sells for $135. “Tarnished Tidings Two,” about 6” x 7”, captures a vintage Christmas tree ornament that’s been handed down through the generations. It may be antiquated and peeling, but it still holds colorful light reflection and casts it out as well. It sells for $75. “Christmas Night,” about 4 3/4’ x 6 1/2”, comes from partly my imagination and partly my knowledge of a cottage entryway in northern Michigan. As you wend your way down closer to the icy winter water you pass a stand of beautiful pines and birch. Stars glisten like no other, here in the country. It sells for $58. “Fresh Snow in a Holiday Forest,” 7 1/2” x 11”, features lots of fun techniques, from a drippy sky and background forest, to lightly falling snow and a more detailed tree in the foreground. I like to think that this painting tells the story of someone who’s out for a hike on a winter’s day crunching through the snow watching their feet traipse through the deep white stuff when all of the sudden they sense something super bright and cheerful right in front of them. They look up and see the prettiest decked-out tree they’ve ever seen, outdoors. They get out their phone and snap a photo and then just bask in its beauty. The painting sells for $105. “See You Next Christmas,” about 6” x 7 1/2”, features a cherished ornament tucked into the boughs of Christmas tree. It seemed to speak to me and wanted to be painted! It sells for $70. Click here to contact me about purchasing the painting, a notecard, or print.
“Heading to the Tree Farm,” 7 1/2” x 5 1/2”, is an example of painting wet-into-wet and waiting for various elements to begin to dry before introducing new elements. it evokes a dreamy state and that’s what it’s like for me when I go to a tree farm, whether memories from childhood or now. All the trees seem to be so majestic and beautiful as they await holiday celebrants. The painting sells for $40. Click here to purchase the painting or to learn more about it. It also will likely be available in notecard and print.
Holiday Greens Bouquet, 6 3/4” x 11”, $100, was started during a class I led via online/ Zoom during COVID-19. I finished it a few days after the class. I loved seeing how everyone’s paintings turned out and I encouraged students to go to their yards to find greenery. There’s beauty everywhere, even in simple leaves and old and new. Ode to Amaryllis is a painting I started when teaching a class of watercolor students during COVID-19, via online instruction. This pretty amaryllis lifted our spirts and I was grateful to spend a few hours with the students, even if not in person. The loose-washy background complements the more detailed foreground. It’s approximately 11” x 11” and sells for $115. Click here to contact me about purchasing the painting.
Holiday Greens was painted shortly after I scoured my yard for a few greens that would evoke a holiday mood. I love red berries and holly (the holly was clipped from a neighbor’s bush). I added the red flower from another bouquet that was on its last leg. The ferns were in my front porch pot, which was also about to retire for the season (December brrrrrr). It’s a loose, watery painting that I hope captures the feel of the holidays, botanically speaking. It is 8 1/2” x 11” and sells for $100. I painted “Home for the Holidays!” on Christmas morning in the stillness of dawn. It felt so right to be working on this at that time, knowing a beautiful day would unfold soon. It was a glorious day and there’s truly no place like home for the holidays. The painting is a vignette that was inspired by a historic home in the area but then my imagination took off and I made it white wood (like another historic home near me) vs. the stone that it is and I embellished it with little bushes and such. It is 6 1/4” x 7 1/2” and sells for $65. Click here to contact me about purchasing the painting or to learn more about it. It will also likely be available in notecard format and print.
I mean, can you believe the colors of Amaryllis? I am constantly amazed at the contours, striping and bloom colors, not to mention that strong stem that holds it all together. Pure magic. This painting is about 7” x 11” and sells for $115. Click here to contact me about purchasing this painting or a print of this painting.
My first inspiration for this painting was in a small cafe in Michigan. The greens were tucked into a tin cup and sitting on a window sill. I sketched it after returning to my studio, but added an evening sky and some falling snow. I also tucked in a few more branches from my imagination. Holiday Greens in a Tin Cup is 7” x 11 1/4” and sells for $70. It’s painted on French archival paper and features a deckled edge, which can show when framed (as part of the art, floated), or the edges can be matted over. I took a photo in a local nursery that had an aisle full of amaryllis, growing in little glass vases. The day was bright, shoppers were out and about and there was magic in the air. I was inspired to attempt to capture that magic and the rows of amaryllis. Of course only one full bloom made it into the painting, as the star, and the rest are a supporting cast of blurred, suggestive imagery, as well as a partial bloom partner. Amaryllis in Vase is approximately 7 1/2” x 11 1/4” and sells for $90. It’s painted on French archival paper and features a deckled edge, which can be part of the art, or the mat can go over the edges. I’d been wanting to paint Santa for a very long time. This is mostly a wet-into-wet technique and the background merges with the foreground and the foreground merges with the background, creating a dreamy effect, as if he’s appearing out of nowhere, coming or going or both. I love his blue eyes and cherub face. I believe in Santa, just fyi!
