Hello from Longboat Key! We spotted this Snowy Egret during a kayak adventure. It was tucked back just sort of watching us go by in our kayaks. This painting is about 9 x 11 and sells for $140. It can be available in notecards/postcards.

Coco Palm Pizzazz, about 8 x 11 inches, is an energetic painting of a coconut palm I fell in love with on vacation on the Gulf Coast of Florida. This pretty white ibis was watching us from the shore as we kayaked around Longboat Key, Fla., on a beautiful day in March. Longboat’s American White Ibis is about 8 x 11 inches and sells for $125. It can also be available in notecard/postcard format.

I love palms — any kind. This is a single Bamboo Palm frond. This was painted at Anna Maria Island where a lot of homeowners and hotels/cottages use Bamboo Palms in their landscape. This is available in notecard. The original painting is also available, 12 inch by 12 inch, $110.

I sat on the deck of a little cottage we rented on Anna Maria Island in Fla. and painted these fronds. I decided that just because most of these palm fronds were green as I observed them at the deck, I wanted to add the colors I was feeling! Pure bliss. Going to this area of Fla. is a true tonic for me, coming from Michigan…in March! This is available in scarf, notecard and print.

Manhattan Beach Magnificence was painted at Manhattan Beach, California. The first time I went here, we were moving my oldest son to the L.A. area for his job (temporary location). I didn’t bring my paints to the beach and was so sorry I didn’t. The next time we visited, we joined him for a vacation in central and central-south California. We went to the same beach and this time I was prepared. I feel that the light in California, especially along the ocean, is different than other ocean or Great Lakes areas I’ve been to. To me, it’s a pastel-y world – pinkish, lavender and light light blue…all conveyed in this little, 8 x 10-inch-ish, $60 painting. Click here to contact me about purchasing this.

Umbrella Days, about 10 by 14 inches, $170, was inspired after many-an-afternoon spent on the beaches at the Gulf, Gasparilla Inn in Boca Grande, Fla. What a joy it is to just sit and do nothing but soak up the ocean ambiance. Do you see the woman in the turquoise hat? That is my sister. “Beach Daze,” 10 by 11, maybe should be called “Beach Gaze.” But you know how it goes, you get all comfortable at the beach on a nice day, and you gaze out and before you know it, you’re in a daze! That’s my sister in the chair, wearing my hat. I asked her to sit there so I could take a photo and later paint the scene. This painting has sold. This 8 x 11-inch painting just sings the blues, as in the blues of the Gulf Coast, along with warm and cool greens, orangey browns and lots of texture from intriguing palm tree bark and coconuts. This painting, done on heavy quality French paper, like most all of my paintings, has deckled edges which kind of add to the art and feel of a palm tree. The Gasparilla Inn and its cottages are pure delight! Lush greens, pops of pinks and happy yellows greet you at every turn, it seems! I felt I had died and gone to Old Florida heaven. Hibiscus Near Gasparilla Inn,, 8 x 11 inches, $100, exemplifies pure Old Florida gorgeousness. The sunny-yellow inn facade and the swaying palm tree backdrop evoke instant paradise. Every hibiscus petal here at the Gasparilla Inn, seems to bow to Mother Nature's generosity, while each palm frond "sings" look at pretty me. I took a photo of this coconut palm on the beach at Anna Maria Island and painted Coconut Palm 1 at Sunset upon my return home. I can't get enough of this little yellow vacation cottage on Anna Maria Island in Florida. So here's round 2! The row of bountiful palms that line one of the resort's charming suites beckons. The suite’s yellow exterior with the criss-cross motif and little white fence round out the enchantment, while the palms stand guard, taking in the inviting breezes. I don't know, I mean how can I get over this palm obsession?  Seriously, I've gone overboard, so to speak. This little Five Palms, 9 by 11 inches, $85, picks up the feeling you get on the Gulf Coast of Florida. I believe that objects pick up atmospheric colors, so the trunks, for example, take on pinks and aquas, yellows and greens, in my book. Five Palms has deckled-edged paper, which gives it a raw, coconut-y appeal! The palm obsession continues. I was in a pink mood when I painted this, so just had to add pink to the sand, water and sky. Oh, and also the fronds! What a tranquil little spot, and I do love the sign the resort had on the beach as you make your way down to the water.
